1st Avenue Gallery is an independent contemporary art gallery located in Sawtell, New South Wales. The gallery is dedicated to promoting the cultural vibrancy of the North Coast region exhibiting both established and emerging contemporary artists.

Representing more than 60 artists, including award winning artists with works in National and International collections, the gallery exhibits a diverse range of contemporary and traditional art forms. Reflecting the intriguing culture of the area, the gallery presents works on paper, paintings, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and digital art .

1st Avenue Gallery also specialises in Australian Indigenous art, with a comprehensive collection of artwork sourced from only Aboriginal owned Art Centres. With in depth knowledge of well-known Indigenous artists and culturally sensitive understanding of ethical practices of selling Australian Indigenous art.

The gallery’s programme showcases a new exhibition each month along with concerts, lectures, artist talks and publications such as our monthly feature Artist Interview based on the art, process and lives of our artists.


The gallery's Directors are all practicing artists, with diverse backgrounds in Curation, Arts Administration, Event Management, Illustration, Design, Publishing, Digital Media, Conservation Framing and Interior Styling and whose focus is to establish 1st Avenue Gallery as an recognised commercial and destination gallery of the region.

Sawtell is a small coastal village, of the Coffs Coast located almost centrally between Brisbane and Sydney. Surrounded by beautiful creeks, beaches and mountains, it has many cafe's, fashion boutiques and an old style cinema.

Parking for the gallery is available at the rear of the building off Kidd Lane or on First Avenue, Sawtell.
